Falling In Love Again…

I once knew a very charming, handsome guy, back when I was in my early 20s.

All the girls were besotted with him. He was definitely a ladies’ man.

No, that’s not him!

I went on just one date with him, which turned out to be pleasant but still somewhat awkward.

He had probably been on at least one date with all the girls.

After our date I had calmed down about him and I was amused at how the other girls got all silly when he was with them.

But then again, he was still a charming and likeable guy.

Years later I heard he had married a woman twice his age. Make of that what you will.

Why Do We Fall In Love?

So why do fools fall in love? (Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers)

Why do people always make a lover feel a fool? (George Michael)

Does anybody love anybody anyway? (Howard Jones)

Romantic relationships make us feel vulnerable.

Naturally none of us want to fail at it, especially not with everyone watching!

Most of us want a keeper. Someone who we feel we can be ourselves with.

To love and care for each other and to actually show off to the world!

Hmmm, ideas for the dating site. 😄

Hand on heart, I don’t think I’ve ever really been in love.

Yes there have been times when I tried to convince myself that I was.

Now, of course, I’ve reached the stage where I keep everything real.

Find My Love

No time for messing around with “silly love games”.

At my age it’s easy to feel left behind in the love and marriage malarkey. Like the ship has sailed and it’s never going to happen.

However, I remind myself that he is still out there somewhere.

Moreover, I believe all the lost time will somehow be more than compensated for when we finally do get together! (Joel 2:25)

Remember, if you’re still alive, there’s still more to be accomplished. Age doesn’t come into it.

And We Lived Happily Ever After

Yes, my goal was to be married by age 25, with picket fence and rambling rose!😄

I wanted to have a large house with a garden, 2.4 children and a cat. Then I would live happily ever after.

So, “life is not a fairy tale” springs to mind, but still these were just basic, normal, everyday things after all.

But basic, normal, everyday things don’t always happen for all of us.

At least, not how we expect.

Frankie, Do You Remember Me?!

The singer, Frankie Lymon had been married three times by the time he was 25.

So he surpassed my goal with flying colours – and then some.

In my late teens I used to hear Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers on the radio occasionally, singing the old 1950s tune, Why Do Fools Fall in Love.

I’d completely forgotten about them until recently when someone posted a video of Frankie Lymon on Facebook.

Before then I had no idea what he looked like.

Thus a fascination with the life story of Frankie Lymon began. It makes for a quite a sad story.

He had a promising singing career ahead of him from just age 13. He seems to have been exploited by the music industry throughout his career.

His life was tragically cut short in 1968 at age 25. Such a waste of great talent but he left a great music legacy behind.

He is said to have died from a heroin overdose but reportedly not everyone is convinced of this as it appears circumstantial.

Apparently no autopsy was performed on the body. Tremg.info

He sang many songs while still a teenager and his voice was awesome on all of them.

He parted with The Teenagers after just 18 months recording and performing together, and sadly it all went down hill for them all after that.

Apparently the separation was a management decision.

Hall Of Fame

Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.

They were inducted in the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2002.

Their talent was recognised properly, only after decades had passed, as is the case sometimes with some celebrities.

They came to the London Palladium, back in the late 1950s, before I was born. I wonder how they compared the UK with their home country.

Have a listen to Frankie’s cover versions of “Silhouettes” and “Diana”.

I believe they are far better than the originals.

The Story Of My Life

A film was made in 1998 about Frankie’s life, starring Larenz Tate.

I haven’t seen it so I can’t comment too much about it.

However I’m not inclined to watch it as it focuses on his three wives feuding over what was left of his fortune.

Only two of the four Teenagers are still alive today, i.e., Herman Santiago and Jimmy Merchant.

Sadly, Sherman Garnes and Joe Negroni passed in the 1970s, while both in their 30s.

Falling In Love 1950s Style

I do love that do-wop era in the 1950s.

I think the love songs back then were fantastically gooey and innocent.

They had that “feel good” factor and great dance beats.

Still The One

Falling in love, and staying in love, has never been a straightforward thing.

It takes commitment, good communication and even sacrifice.

Or so I’m told!

So is it just for fools?

Well, let’s hope we don’t kiss any!

Come on, let’s show them all – and see love through!

So how many song titles did you spot?! Name them in the comments!
