So my friends, today is the very last day I can say that I’m in my 50s.

Tomorrow I enter into my sixth decade.

Now I do remember when my daughter was in primary school that the children sang the “Happy Birthday” song with a second verse.

It was basically the same tune with just one line sang over again i.e. “How old are you now?”.

As we get older we tend not to use that line…unless of course it’s a land mark birthday.

Happy 60th!

Vogue!

To mark the day, my plans are mainly to have a photoshoot so obviously this includes getting myself nicely dolled up tomorrow.

The remainder of the day will include cake…amongst other tasty treats.

I actually started the day today positively, with an apple and water cleanse, to get my body in the best shape for tomorrow.

I think I did quite well – I lasted till about 5pm when I finally gave in to hunger pangs and ate my Graze box which arrived today.

Not quite the box, but the contents. I was not that desperate.😅

I had a suggestion put to me today to add my photoshoot picture on Facebook, which of course is the obvious thing to do nowadays.

So tomorrow I hope to put up this fantastic “No way does she look 60” picture as a temporary profile photo.

Reflection and Direction

This past Sunday was spent with a friend as a birthday warm-up. She will also be celebrating a land mark birthday in a few months.

We decided it was a time for reflection and new direction.

In my younger days, especially in my 20s which I’ve written about a few times here already, I seemed to be in a social whirl.

I have sometimes wondered in the past months what on earth happened to all of that.

Granted as I have got older, I value better a few close friends rather than a gaggle of acquaintances.

However, I realise my social life seems to have gradually slowed down to almost a halt. How boring is that?!

Time to start the older version of painting the town red!

Time to get creative

Creating New Memories

I’m still not quite sure of what that looks like exactly. But there has to be more to life than work, shopping and TV.

(I’m conscious of starting that last sentence with “But” which I remember an English teacher saying way back when that one should never start a sentence with that word).

Anyway, going forward, my life can’t just be made up of memories. Time for new ones for the future!

Yes I’m taking my own advice and setting goals for myself to live my best life yet.

Levelling Up and Rocking It!

As I said in “Happy Cake Day” I’m getting a new level added in life experience. I plan to make the most of it.

There’s a saying that “youth is wasted on the young”.

Well to an extent if I had more of the confidence I have today to utilise back then, my life would have probably been a lot more spectacular.

But (doh!) life is a learning experience, hence the levels.

At almost level 60 I think I’ve matured well enough to know what’s what. There’s no fool like an old fool – and that ain’t me!

Of course I have not “arrived” as such, because who has?

I do know a lot more now though than before. Enough to not start the last sentence with “But”!

Yes, I know, it’s getting old now – but so am I!

Talking of old, yes you really are as young as you feel.

Age Really Is Just A Number

Maybe in days gone by, 60 meant it was time to get the rocking chair out, along with the furry slippers and anything old fashioned.

Nowadays it more or less is just a number.

I certainly wouldn’t plan to have plastic surgery and dye my hair purple but I really do feel like I could still be in my 20s. At least as far as my mind goes.

I mean, apart from the rocking chair which I wouldn’t have dreamt of in my 20s, I don’t have the mindset that now I’m (almost) a frail OAP who’s entitled to a free bus pass.

Nope!

ImPossible!

So although I don’t feel like I’ve achieved all that I wanted to so far, it’s not over as long as I have breath in my body.

By the grace of God I hope to celebrate many happy returns.

As another saying goes, “You’re not too old and it’s not too late.”

What we need to realise is that we achieve things at our own pace and not when society says we should.

OK, so if you feel you should have a few grandchildren by now but you haven’t even got any children, do not despair.

All Things ARE Possible!

God has a way of making things work even when we think there is no way. He restores the years the canker worm destroyed. (Joel 2:25).

He also parted the Red Sea, (Exodus 14:16), and gave Sarah the ability to conceive in her 90s,(Genesis 21:2}, to name a few examples.

!All things are possible”. (Mark 10:27). Let God surprise you.

So again I say, do not despair. It’s all about our attitude.

Never Give Up

If you feel down and out, you can always get up again. This time stronger and wiser.

There is always hope.

Determine that defeat is simply not an option.

Rest a little while if you have to, but you do have to get up again.

Don’t give up!

What Are Bell Bottoms?!

I think we are all born in the era we were meant for. I mean, I could not imagine a childhood in any other decade than the 1970s.

No it was not perfect but there was a simplicity, an innocence and a kind of freedom I don’t believe children have today.

Yes of course there are things that are much better today than back then. I still would not trade though.

What, no remote?!

It’s as if there is nowhere left to go as far as fashion is concerned.

The 20th century had distinctive aspects to each decade. In this century the styles from 10 years ago do not necessarily look dated.

Anything goes.

Bell bottoms

Play On

I can’t say I keep up with today’s music but there does not seem to be any new sounds created.

It’s not like the 1950s music being distinctly different from the 1980s. Again, any sound is the thing nowadays.

What Next?

Well I’ve seen a lot, done a lot, felt a lot and learnt a lot.

And so it continues…

Happy 60th birthday to me (tomorrow)!
